ANC National Deployees in the North West have been requested by the party’s national officials to conduct an assessment on the party’s IPC Coordinator, Hlomane Chauke’s suitability to hold office.

This, after the complaint by former president Kgalema Motlanthe, who heads the ANC electoral committee, about Chauke’s conduct.

Chauke is accused of allegedly misrepresenting the party’s electoral committee resolutions.

This follows Chauke’s letter to ANC North West regions, amongst others, informing them that there will be no re-runs for the candidate selection process.

Convenor of the ANC Deployees, Obed Bapela, says they will be looking into the matter soon.

“We have agreed to meet next week as NEC deployees to then begin to look at the assignment given to us, and then based on that, we will then be able to look at what are the issues and how deep do they go, so that at a point when we call comrade Chauke to come and give us his own account of why the letter was written, what was his understanding of that letter (sic).”

However, disgruntled candidates in the Matlosana Local Municipality, who were removed from the list, demand that the ANC respect the will of the people.

Spokesperson Itumeleng Gigaba says, “Our position is very clear comrades, that the ANC must respect the will of the community. The ANC must respect those who have been selected in their respective communities. The ANC must ensure that those who have been elected at the end of the day, they end up being registered on the IEC and ultimately, finding themselves on the polls.”

Some ANC members are even calling for the disbandment of the IPC.

Their convenor, Lopang Rothman, says, ”This confirms our allegations or our call that initially, we have made that the IPC of the North West in particular, is not capable to deal with issues that seek to unite members of the ANC. This has been our call all along, that the IPC of the North West should be disbanded. All our allegations and all the noise we have been making that this IPC is incapable, they are divisive they don’t respect the ANC. They don’t respect processes of the ANC that is confirmed that.”

Meanwhile, the ANC national leadership says the intervention in the province will not affect the party’s election campaign.
