ANC appeals for order at January 8 rally

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The ANC has appealed to its supporters to behave at today’s January 8 rally taking place at the ABSA Stadium in Durban.
Some 50 000 people are billed to attend the event, which starts at 9am with entertainment by South African artists.
ANC President Jacob Zuma is expected to address the rally any time between 11am and 12pm and will outline the party’s plans for the year ahead.
Security in and around the stadium is tight.
ANC Communications Manager Keith Khoza says members and supporters must act in a manner that’s indicative of the party. He’s appealed to those attending not to push and shove each other and cause a stampede.
Khoza says people should arrive early so that the programme can start on time.
He adds that the festivities started with the renaming of its KwaZulu-Natal headquarters after former ANC president Pixley ka Isaka Seme, yesterday. Last night the party held a gala dinner at the Nkosi Albert Luthuli Convention Centre.
