The ANC has apologised to the South African National Editors Forum after a senior journalist was pushed around and his credentials removed at the party’s elective conference in Nasrec, south of Johannesburg.

Reports also surfaced that other journalists were pushed around, harassed and threatened to be removed from the conference by the police.

Sanef Chairperson Mahlatse Gallens says they had an urgent meeting with the ANC.

“We did get an apology from the ANC. They apologised. They say it is never their intention to have things end the way they did, especially with this particular incident. They also told us that they were not aware of some of the incidences that we have raised.”

Gallens says the police also complained about security bridge by some reporters. “And they have appealed to journalists and would like to appeal to journalists if there is an incident let’s report it immediately. I have to also mention that they did raise concerns that there was a security bridge by some reporters as well and I was not aware of all the details. But of course, they have asked us to respect the rules they have created.”
