ANC aims to win back Metros

Reading Time: < 1 minute

African National Congress (ANC) President Cyril Ramaphosa says they will reclaim their control over the big Metros in the next municipal elections. The ANC lost Tshwane, Johannesburg and the Nelson Mandela Bay Metros to a Democratic Alliance-led coalition after the 2016 municipal elections.

Ramaphosa has been leading the ANC voter registration campaign in the Gauteng province since Saturday, visiting Soweto shopping centres and engaging with communities in the streets of Tshwane. Ramaphosa is confident that the public reception will translate into votes.

“We are all politicians; we hope and are working to translate this warm feeling into votes. Our target and our aim is to win Tshwane back, is to win all the Metros back and right now we think they are within our grasp. In fact they are in our palm and all we need to do is to close our hands and all the Metros are back in the African National Congress’ control.”
