It is very exciting when ballet companies get to put their own spin on a ballet classic. In this case, the ballet is Cinderella and renowned artistic director Iain MacDonald, from the South Africa Mzansi Ballet (SAMB), is leading the creative process in putting together a new variation of the production.
Principal dancer at SAMB Burnise Silvius and South Korean gold medallist Jin Ho Won, 21, came together at the studios in Braamfontein to tackle MacDonald’s ballet. Tanja Bencun got a glimpse inside a private coaching session (watch video).
The premiere takes place at the Joburg Theatre on Friday 13 September and the season runs to Sunday 29 September with Won alternating as Cinderella with Silvius and other SAMB dancers, yet to be announced.
