There was space for both the in-form Aiden Markram and the experienced Hashim Amla in South Africa’s 15-man ICC Cricket World Cup squad that was announced.
The opening batsman of the Highveld Lions, Reeza Hendricks, is the obvious one that misses out.
Markram scored three centuries during the season’s Momentum One Day Cup, including one in the final, while Amla has played in 174 one day internationals and averages 49,74 runs per innings.
The team that will be captained by Faf du Plessis, also includes all-rounders J.P Duminy, Dwaine Pretorius and Andile Phehlukwayo.
The 15 member Proteas squad for the Cricket World Cup, which begins at the end of May in England, is as follows:
Faf du Plessis (captain)
Hashim Amla
Quinton de Kock
JP Duminy
Aiden Markram
David Miller
Lungi Ngidi
Anrich Nortje
Andile Pehlukwayo
Dwaine Pretorius
Kagiso Rabada
Tebraiz Shamsi
Dale Steyn
Imran Tahir
Rassie van der Dussen
