AmaZulu King, Patrice Motsepe and Premier Zikalala to visit flood affected areas in KZN

King Misuzulu ka Zwelithini and mining billionaire businessman Patrice Motsepe, together with the Premier of KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Sihle Zikalala, are visiting the area of Tshelimnyama, west of Durban to assess the extent of damage caused by the recent floods.

More than 390 people have lost their lives in the province so far with more rain expected over the weekend. Thousands more have been displaced after their homes were washed away by torrential downpours.

They will be inspecting the devastating impact of the floods and visit families who lost loved ones in the four different wards of the area.

The Department of Human Settlements says around 4 000 homes have been completely destroyed by the floods in KZN, with Tshelimnyama having been one of the areas most affected.

The South African Weather Service has warned that above average rainfall is expected to hit KZN throughout this weekend.

Fuel shortages

Businesses, residents and motorists are starting to feel the effects of the floods in as several filling stations across the eThekwini Municipality report fuel shortages.

Several stations are limiting the amount of fuel per vehicle. Motorists have been queuing at service stations since Thursday night.

Members of the taxi industry are also concerned around the impact of the shortage of fuel.
