Amathole District Municipality floods claim three lives

Three people have died in the flooding that affected parts of the Amathole District Municipality in the Eastern Cape last weekend.

Two people died when the car they were travelling in was swept off a bridge near Butterworth on Saturday.

The spokesperson for the Amathole District Municipality, Sisa Msiwa says the third body was found in a village on Monday.

“Still in Mnquma, a third fatality was that of a male body recovered by Centane SAPS on the banks of Ngqongqo River in Cebe Village, while attempting to cross to the other side. Our disaster teams continue to assess the extent of damages after which corresponding interventions will be formulated, at the back of these unfortunate incidents,” explains Msiwa.
