Alleged victim continues testimony in Bishop Zondo case

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The 46-year-old woman who is accusing Bishop Stephen Zondo of rape has told the High Court in Pretoria that she never disclosed the alleged incidents to her parents because they would have punished her.

The woman, who is also Zondo’s relative, is continuing to testify under cross-examination. She alleges the pastor raped her on three occasions forty years ago. Zondo, a leader of The Rivers of Living Waters Church in the Vaal, is facing ten charges, including defeating the ends of justice and indecent assault.

Questioned on her silence by Advocate Piet Pistorius, this is how the witness responded through an interpreter.

“A boy rapes a girl, and that girl happens to be you, you would not be given an ear by your parents because it’s taboo? Witness. My father would have not listened to me because we respect each other in my family, I would have been beaten up for saying that.”
