A suspected rapist of a six-year-old girl in Limpopo has been stoned to death by community members. The young girl was allegedly raped and killed at Petanenge village outside Tzaneen in Limpopo.

Her body was found with a wound in the neck and hidden in a house at nearby Lusaka village in the area.

Police say the suspected rapist and killer, aged 28, was in turn stoned to death by angry community members. Police say that community members searched for a local man who was last seen with the girl.

Police spokesperson Motlafela Mojapelo says the deceased man had confessed before the community members to raping and killing the child to conceal evidence.

Mojapelo says they’re investigating both incidents.

“The provincial commissioner of police in Limpopo Lieutenant Thembi Hadebe has urged community members to closely work with police in the prevention of crimes perpetrated against children this after a six-year-old baby girl was allegedly raped and murdered by the man who was in turn stoned to death by community members at Petanenge village outside Tzaneen on Saturday. The police have opened cases of rape and murder against the deceased suspect and another case of murder that resulted from the vigilante incident the investigations are continuing.”
