Two suspects have died and two others injured after their getaway vehicle overturned following an armed robbery at a car dealership in Vereeniging, in the Vaal.

The four had allegedly followed a man from a bank who had intended to buy a car and robbed him of a substantial amount of money. As they tried to flee, neighbouring business people gave chase.

The suspects’ car rolled near Sasolburg. Gauteng Police say the two who died are yet to be identified. Spokesperson Lungelo Dlamini says the other two sustained injuries and were taken to hospital.

“They’re under police guard. Police recovered a stolen vehicle, an unlicensed firearm, as well as a substantial amount of money that was stolen. They’re expected to appear in court on charges of armed robbery, possession of unlicensed firearm and possession of stolen vehicles, after they’re recovered in hospital,”  he said.
