The Independent Electoral Commission says it is all systems go for Wednesday’s much anticipated by-elections in the Metsimaholo Municipality in the Free State.

The Commission says the special votes went smoothly and it is expecting that all political party members will abide by the commission’s polling laws.

The coalition-led municipality was dissolved in July 2017 after failing to adopt a budget for the 2017/18 financial year.

Several political parties will be contesting the election, including the SACP, which will for the first take part as a separate party outside the ANC-led tripartite alliance.

“As I am talking to you, the tents are pitched up. We are have 21 wards, 15 political parties that are going to contest these by elections. The party agents were trained. Our presiding officers were trained. We have competent presiding officers that are there,” says IEC Fezile Dabi Supervisor, Charmaine Tsopo.
