The Democratic Alliance (DA) Premier candidate Solly Msimanga plans to lay criminal charges on Sunday for incitement of violence against the African National Congress (ANC) at Alexandra Police Station, north of Johannesburg.

This follows protests this week over land grabs, the mushrooming of illegal dwellings and service delivery in the area.

The DA in Gauteng blames the ANC for the Alex total shutdown protests, and says the charges also include, influencing the outcome of the upcoming General Elections through instigating a protest in a peaceful Alexandra Township.

Meanwhile, residents are planning another total shutdown in the township on Monday. The protesters also plan to march to the City’s Offices in Sandton.

Johannesburg Metro police spokesperson Wayne Minaar says, “JMPD is in a state of readiness, as a huge contingent of officers will be prepared to be deployed on the main roads leading to Sandton and also on the side roads. JMPD will support the public or the policing unit of the SAPS. Certain roads may have to be blocked off where necessary.”
