Alexander Bjork wins his maiden European Tour title

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Sweden’s Alexander Bjork won his maiden European Tour title in his 44th appearance, after clinching the China Open by one stroke in Beijing.

Bjork fired a seven under par 65 to pry himself free from a very congested leader board. He entered the final round one shot off the lead, and at one point 6 players had a share of the lead.

On a day of twists and turns, Bjork took the outright lead with a birdie at the 17th to take him to 18 under, and it was then an anxious wait to see who could catch him.

Overnight leaders, Spain’s Adrian Otaegui and Matt Wallace of England needed to eagle the 18th to force a play-off.

Otaegui birdied to finish second on 17 under, Wallace could only manage par, and end on 16 under alongside Spain’s Jorge Campillo and Jordan Smith of England.

Bjork becomes the first Swede to win the China Open and also extends his country’s run of seasons with a European Tour win to 30.
