Alarming statutory rape cases reported in Zeerust

SABC News
Lukubu Village outside Zeerust in the North-West is recording an alarming number of cases of statutory rape.
Recently, a 42 year old has been remanded in custody for alleged statutory rape.
The court heard that the accused is in a relationship with a 14-year-old girl.
Though the victim’s family refused to talk to SABC News, the girl’s mother confirmed that the perpetrator has been buying them groceries and clothes for the victim and giving her pocket money daily.
He was reported by immigration officers during inspection, who found the girl in a bedroom inside his shop.
Another family in the area is determined to fight for justice, following an apparent relationship between a local pastor and their 15-year-old child.

The victim’s mother explains, “My Partner told me that he heard through the grapevines that my daughter is being used. I asked him what he means by that. He then said there’s an old man around this area who is sleeping with my daughter. He then approached the man to confront him. That old man then asked to meet with my mother, saying he wants to apologise.”
