Aircraft deployed to battle fire at Table Mountain National Park

SABC News

The South African National Parks (SANParks) says an aircraft will be dispatched on Monday morning to assist with a vegetation fire that broke out above Kloofnek Corner in Tafelberg Road in Cape Town on Sunday.

SANParks rangers and traffic officials were deployed to assist with the safe evacuation of visitors and manage traffic in the area; crews are still on scene.

The fire has crept close to the Lower Cableway Station, but no visitors were impacted as the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway is closed for annual maintenance.

The Cableway’s Managing Director, Wahida Parker, says staff were on high alert and “Very well supported by the City of Cape Town’s Fire Department, SANParks’ volunteer fire services and the management of the fire services in the City of Cape Town. Our staff were incredible in managing the property.”
