Agnes Msimang laid to rest

Anti-apartheid stalwart, Agnes Msimang has been laid to rest in a Special Official Funeral in Fourways, north of Johannesburg.

The 89-year-old passed on last week after a long illness.

Msimang spent three decades in exile after the banning of the African National Congress in 1960

Msimang was a former diplomat, gender activist and involved in the struggle against apartheid.

In 2014 she received the National Order of Luthuli in Silver and was also the recipient of the Department of International Relations and Cooperation’s (DIRCO) highest accolade, the OR Tambo Lifetime Achievement Ubuntu Award.

She leaves behind a legacy of patriotism and service.
