Aggrieved ANC members in the North West welcome court ruling

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Aggrieved African National Congress (ANC) members in the North West say they accept the ruling of the High Court, on their urgent application to declare the 9th ANC Provincial Conference invalid and unlawful.

On Thursday, the North West High Court dismissed with costs their urgent application.

The party members had served both the ANC’s National Executive Committee, as well as the newly-elected provincial officials, with court papers.

They were challenging the outcome of the provincial conference.

The aggrieved members claim there were irregularities at the conference, which was held in Rustenburg two weeks ago.

The spokesperson for the aggrieved members Gabriel Nkgweng says they respect the court’s decision.

“We always respect the rule of the law, be that as it may, what the members are fighting for here is their rights that are infringed upon. What was dealt with here today [Thursday] was the urgency of the matter. So according to the judge, it lacked urgency of which we respect that. Therefore, what remains from now is for this particular matter to be put on a normal roll whereby it will be ventilated properly,” adds Nkgweng.
