Reading Time: < 1 minute

Respected North African and football specialist journalist Maher Mezahi wasn’t born the last time his home country Algeria lifted the last Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament, beating Nigeria 1-0 in the final on home soil.

But on Friday night, Mezahi could witness history as the Djamel Belmadi led team aim to to complete their six game 100% winning streak in this competition against Senegal in the 32nd AFCON final at Cairo International stadium (21:00).

The 28-year-old Algerian believes that this is the time for the Dessert Foxes to rise especially with captain and Manchester City star attacker Riyad Mahrez on song with three goals in this competition.

In this interview with SABC Sport reporter Velile Mnyandu, Mezahi, who was born in the US but raised in Canada and only moved to Algiers three years ago, is excited about the prospects of tonight’s game.

Mezahi has written for some of the leading media houses around the globe.
