The South African Medical Association (SAMA) says disciplinary action will be taken against medical professionals who spread misinformation about COVID-19 vaccines without scientific proof.

The association earlier said it was dismayed about reports that some healthcare workers including doctors have discouraged patients from getting COVID-19 vaccinations based on doubts about the vaccine’s safety and effectiveness.

Chairperson of the SA Medical Association’s Public Sector Doctor Advocacy Forum, Dr Akhtar Hussain says, “False information on the COVID-19 vaccination by the doctors is unethical, illegal, it is unprofessional, not only for the doctors but anyone. This is a life-saving program to fight against the COVID-19 and that vaccination is the only choice at the moment apart from the non-pharmaceutical behaviours.”
