Rebuilding confidence in Cricket South Africa is how newly appointed acting CEO Kugandrie Govender plans to get the ball rolling. She was appointed as head of the embattled federation, following the resignation of Jacques Faul.

Her appointment comes at a time when numerous internal squabbles have given rise to legal battles and even suspensions. The Durban-born Govender says her focus will be to put South African’s sentiments at the helm of the cricket body.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to show what I’m made off and what I have to offer this beautiful game and to show South Africans how we can turn this organisation around and make South Africans proud of us again. I think we are just keen to get there again. That’s what S.Africans want and that’s my mandate.”

Govender has more than 23 years of experience in the corporate sector and is the current Chief Commercial Officer at Cricket South Africa.

She says it is important for CSA to improve its reputation both locally and internationally. “It’s a critical time for the organisation and crucial for key stakeholders to work together to improve the rating of cricket among those who love, support, and follow the sport.”

Faul stepped down on Monday, a month before his contract would have expired.

The board says  he has put in place a detail transitional plan that would ensure the organisation makes a seamless transition.

Faul has returned to his full-time job as CEO of the Titans franchise.
