Banyana Banyana held first training before their today’s (Wednesday) opening encounter against Slovakia in the Cyprus Cup.

Banyana Banyana are bracing themselves for the Cyprus Cup which kicks-off in that country on Wednesday.

The tournament will see Desiree Ellis take on her first assignment as the full-time coach of the South African Women’s team, as her role in which she was acting for the last 18 months was made permanent.

South Africa will face Slovakia in their opening match in the Group C and will field a full strength side. Other teams that are part of the group include Hungary and Trinidad & Tobago.

The former Banyana captain has been caretaker coach since Vera Pauw’s contract expired after the 2016 Olympics.

The 54 year-old became the only South African to have won the Africa Women’s Championship as both player and coach.
