Dr Satchu Annamalai, who shared a 40-year friendship with Pillay, says his death is a huge loss to the world of theatre and academia.
“I think we have lost an amazing academic, somebody who has given so much and still had so much more to give and a lot of people in the academic world will speak to him about various topics and all of them would testify that they were greatly inspired by this person and also I learnt a lot from him.”
