The challenge for the AbaThembu throne will play out in the High Court in Mthatha in the Eastern Cape on Thursday.
The royal family of the AmaDlomo clan and Prince Azenathi Dalinyebo are challenging Premier Oscar Mabuyane’s decision to reinstate his father, Buyelekhaya Dalinyebo as King, in spite of his criminal record.
King Dalinyebo is currently out on parole after serving a 12-year sentence for assault and kidnapping.
The decision to remove Prince Azenathi from the throne also requires him to vacate the royal palace at Bumbane.
King Dalinyebo has also disowned Prince Azenathi and is demanding a DNA test to prove his paternity.
Prince Azenathi will be represented by Advocate Apla Bodlani, the Premier by Advocate Thembeka Ngcukaitobi, while King Buyelekhaya will be represented by Advocate Dali Mpofu.
