The AbaThembu Royal House in the Eastern Cape has welcomed the Supreme Court of Appeal decision to dismiss an appeal by struggle stalwart Winnie Madikizela-Mandela.

The ex-wife of former President Nelson Mandela challenged the ownership of the Mandela home in Qunu in the Eastern Cape, arguing she was the rightful owner.

She claimed that she only found out in 2014 that the property was registered in former President Nelson Mandela’s name and that it was part of his will.

Madiba bequeathed the property to the Nelson Rholihlahla Mandela Family Trust.

“We are very glad that court has finalised the issue because all we want is peace with the house of Mandela. We hope that grandmother Winnie Mandela will accept the judgment so that there could be peace in the Mandela family ,” said Spokesperson of the AbaThembu Royal House, Chief Thandixolo Mtirara.
