The Abantu Batho Congress (ABC) led by Philani ‘PG’ Mavundla, launched its 2021 Local Government Elections manifesto at the Durban City Hall on Wednesday, 15 September 2021.

The party is contesting this year’s municipal elections in Durban, eThekwini metro.

The party’s manifesto consists of a ten-point plan on what it can offer if it gains seats after the municipal polls.

ABC Manifesto Priorities:

1. Jobs

The ABC says where it gains seats or wins an outright victory in a local or District or Metro party representatives will be directed to implement or fight for the following:

  • Adopt an engineer for well trained and skilled engineering municipal teams
  • ICT rollout – providing job seekers with 250mbps per day, coding classes for teenagers; and replacing old water and electricity meters that are readable and accessible
  • Recycling, both for homes and big industries
  • Parks and recreation – Within six months, the ABC will have a firm 360-degree its parks and recreation business strategy
  • End outsourcing – All outsourced labour functions of the municipalities will be audited and weighed on the merits of the need for that particular function to be outsourced based on its scale of scarcity or rarity.

The rest of the manifesto includes:

2. A COVID-19 local economic recovery plan

3. Security for Abantu security for businesses to save lives and jobs

4. Save money and deliver more efficient professional & speedy services

5. A water-saving and preservation strategy

6. Plan to fix roads and streetlights

7. Plan to provide and build more clinics

8. Financial governance and compliance with all laws and bylaws related to revenue and expenditure management

9. A detailed housing plan

10. Councillors developing their own localised manifesto: All contesting Johannesburg ward councillor candidates of the ABC, plus the public representative candidates that are enlisted onto the party lists including any independent community-based organisations that have joined our fight for community struggles, will develop their own localised manifestos. Then a ward-based local manifesto list of objectives will be determined to allow for the generic and tactical approaches to be used to service communities with fervour and clear intention.
