Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (Amcu) President Joseph Mathunjwa says President Cyril Ramaphosa’s recent announcement on Marikana was aimed at undermining the union.

While delivering Winnie Madikizela-Mandela’s eulogy at Orlando Stadium in Soweto on Saturday, President Ramaphosa announced that he and Economic Freedom Fighters leader Julius Malema would make joint a visit to Marikana.

Malema has often accused Ramaphosa of playing a role in the police killing 34 mineworkers at Marikana in the North West in 2012.

Mathunjwa says the Marikana victims should not be used to resolve political differences.

“This immediate response of this marriage of convenience between the president of the ANC and the EFF is that the victims of Marikana should not be used as an instrument to mend their relationship in their political party.”
