A Monday not forgotten: 21st of March 1960

South Africa remembers the horrific events of the 21st of March 1960 when 69 people were killed and 186 others injured as police opened fire on demonstrators who were protesting against the pass laws in Sharpeville.

Human Rights Day is commemorated on March 21 to pay tribute to the lives loss.

South Africans will celebrate the national Human Rights Day event on 21 March 2015 in Uitenhage, Eastern Cape under the theme: “Celebrating the Freedom Charter, Enjoying Equal Human Rights for All”.

South Africa has gone a long way towards realising rights for all its citizens, but the journey continues.
