Reading Time: 2 minutes

Twenty eight year old Sean Hendricks has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the rape of his then girlfriend.

Hendricks was also given 20 years in jail for attempted murder that occurred in September 2020 in Alexandria in the Eastern Cape.

This comes after an appearance at the Makhanda High court. The High Court heard evidence of the traumatic experience endured by the 18-year-old victim in 2020.

The victim was severely injured, with several stab wounds. It was established that she was also raped.

Police spokesperson Thembinkosi Kinana says Hendricks could not escape the sentencing due to the overwhelming evidence against him.

Crime statistics for the 2021 second quarter period from the 1st July to the 30th September showed an increase of 4.7% in sexual offence cases.
