Indian cricket fans invoked divine powers on Sunday as the team kicks off their T20 World Cup journey against their arch-rivals, Pakistan later in the day.

Fans cheered for the team, carried posters and placards of their favourite players and expressed confidence that India will maintain their winning streak against Pakistan in World Cup games.

The teams will face each other on Sunday evening in Dubai, after a gap of more than two years. It will be more than half a decade since the two rivals played a Twenty-20 match.

“The faith of all Indians is behind the team, they will play well and win and I am sure they will live up to that faith,” said a fan from Mumbai, Vivek.

In central Indore city, fans made a huge mural expanding more than 7 400 square feet, featuring the Indian captain, vice-captain, and mentor with a trophy, as they cheered for the team.

India will begin its T-20 campaign on Sunday, with New Zealand, Afghanistan and two as-yet-unidentified qualifiers making up the rest of the Group 2 of the Super 12 stage.
