Scores of Joburgers have braved the cold weather to get their COVID-19 vaccine at the SABC head office in Auckland Park in Johannesburg. Saturday marks the last day of the three-day SABC vaccine drive.

The public broadcaster together with the Gauteng government launched the three-day pop-up vaccination site targeting SABC employees, students and members of the public around the area.

Due to the cold and drizzling weather, the SABC’s underground parking lot has been turned into a vaccination site.

Vaccination at the SABC started on Thursday and 581 people were inoculated on that day. On Friday the number increased to 710.

More people are expected to come through on Saturday. Those at the venue are being entertained with music and being served free coffee.

People aged 18 and above will be allowed to vaccinate.

Gauteng Premier David Makhura says the provincial government will continue to partner with organisations to promote vaccination against COVID-19.

Makhura says they will use partnerships to convince the public that there is no better way of fighting the pandemic than vaccinating.

“We’re really, really going out there to find partners – civil society, various organisations and state institutions. We’re also going to communities to organisations to ramp up this vaccination programme because in the end vaccinating more and more and more people is the best we can do in fighting this pandemic,” says Makhura.
