South Africa now has almost 56 000 active COVID-19 cases after another 5 361 new infections were recorded in the last 24 hours.
This brings the total number of infections to 1 680 373.
This the second day that the number of new cases exceeds the 5 000 mark.
The total number of deaths now stands at 56 675 after another 54 people succumbed to the virus.
Most of the deaths occurred in Gauteng, followed by the Free State and the Western Cape.
Recoveries stand at 1 567 635.
