South Africa has recorded 2 649 new coronavirus infections in the last 24-hour cycle, taking the total number to 1 458 958.
The country has also recorded 547 new COVID-19 related fatalities on Tuesday.
In a statement, Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says most of the new deaths were recorded in KwaZulu-Natal.
“Regrettably, we report 547 more COVID-19 related deaths: 68 from Eastern Cape, 30 from the Free State, 91 from Gauteng, 143 from KwaZulu-Natal, 134 from Limpopo, 9 from Mpumalanga, 3 from the Northern Cape and 69 from the Western Cape,” says Dr Mkhize. This brings the total number of deaths to 44 946.

Recoveries currently stand at 1 318 504.
The cumulative number of tests conducted to date is 8 329 691.
