South Africa has recorded 12 710 new coronavirus infections in the last 24-hour cycle, taking the total number to 1 369 426.
The country has also recorded 566 new COVID-19 related fatalities on Wednesday.
In a statement, Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says most of the new deaths were recorded in KwaZulu-Natal.
“Regrettably, we report 566 more COVID-19 related deaths: 104 from Eastern Cape, 46 from the Free State, 80 from Gauteng, 218 from KwaZulu-Natal, 6 from Mpumalanga, 8 from the Northern Cape and 104 from the Western Cape,” says Dr Mkhize. This brings the total number of deaths to 38 854.
Recoveries currently stand at 1 160 412.
The cumulative number of tests conducted to date is 7 762 073.
