The number of coronavirus cases in South Africa has risen to 603 338 after 3 398 new cases were confirmed in the past 24 hours.
The Department of Health says 225 additional COVID-19 related deaths were recorded on Friday, bringing the total death toll in the country to 12 843.
“57 deaths from the Eastern Cape, 46 from Gauteng, 81 from KwaZulu-Natal, 6 from the Northern Cape, 10 from North West and 25 from the Western Cape,” reads a statement from the Health Department.
The Western Cape still has the highest number of fatalities in the country with 3 713 followed by Gauteng and the Eastern Cape with 3 190 and 2 753 respectively.
The total number of recoveries is 500 102, translating to a total recovery rate of 82%.
