In this week’s Science wrap we take a look at the latest news on renewable energy from the Northern and Eastern Cape.

Carl Djerassi, an Austrian-born chemist who helped to develop the birth control pill before becoming a playwright and novelist, died in San Francisco on Friday at the age of 91.

Finally a red tide has been confirmed along a 200 kilometre stretch from St. Helena Bay to Doringbaai on the West Coast where a certain micro algae in this process makes shellfish extremely poisonous and can be deadly for humans.
