99 municipalities have finished counting

The counting of ballots in 99 South African municipalities have been completed and verified by the Independent Electoral Commission. This at just after 02:00 on Wednesday 3 November. There are 213 councils.

South Africans went to vote on Monday, in its sixth local-government poll since the first democratic elections in 1994. Just less than 60% of the voting districts have been verified and the commission hopes to finish counting nine out of every ten voting districts this morning.

None of the eight metro councils have verified a result so far.

The ANC is the leading party in 73 of the councils that have finished counting.
