SALGA urges Ramaphosa to address municipal population growth

Bheke Stofile, President of the South African Local Government Association (SALGA), has highlighted the need for President Cyril Ramaphosa to discuss municipal population growth in his upcoming State of the Nation Address (SONA) tonight at 7 pm.

Stofile’s call comes after Statistics South Africa (STATS SA) reported a population increase to 62 million, placing significant strain on municipal services and infrastructure.

SALGA emphasizes the importance of acknowledging and addressing these challenges to ensure effective service delivery at the local level.

Stofile says the need for cooperation between all levels of government in responding to the infrastructure and service delivery pressures faced by municipalities.

SALGA awaits the President’s response to these critical issues in his SONA address tonight.
