ANCYL leader compares uMkhonto we Sizwe Party to a cult

Reading Time: 2 minutes

The African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) has compared the newly formed uMkhonto we Sizwe (MK) Party to a cult formed on tribal bases.

Last year, former ANC president Jacob Zuma endorsed the MK Party and announced that he would vote for it in the 2024 elections.

He said he would not campaign for the ANC.

The MK also announced that Zuma will be the face of the party ahead of the elections.

The league’s president, Collen Malatji, says Zuma should be helping to fix the damage he caused in the ANC.

“It’s unfair for President Zuma after he has caused so much damage to the image of the ANC, he decides to leave the ANC when he is supposed to be fixing the damage that he has caused. And we believe that it is selfish from him to create a cult organisation that is designed to cater to tribal politics.”

“That’s very sad, especially from a person that the ANC has supported and believed in, not only supported but also trained,” says Malatji.

Meanwhile, some opposition parties in KwaZulu-Natal believe that the MK Party will not affect the performance of their organisations in the upcoming elections.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) and the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) both say the new kid on the block will help reduce the support of the ANC.
