The use of tablets by learners in some schools in Mpumalanga is yielding the desired results in improving academic performance.
MEC for Education Bonakele Majuba says this while handing over tablets which are fully resourced with education supplementary material to Grade 8 to 12 learners at Driekoppies Combined School in Nkomazi.
The Ubuhlebuzile e-learning pilot programme was initiated after COVID-19 to enhance teaching and learning in schools.
Learners at eight schools in the province are to benefit from this programme this year.
“With this new gadgets life will be easier for us, we will be able to do research downloading textbooks, as parents can not afford this.”
“I feel like this gadgets will improve our academics because some of our fellow learners didn’t have money to buy data and cellphones.”
Majuba says since the programme was initiated, the province’s matric results have been improving.
Majuba urged the learners to use the tablets for learning purposes only.
“Since that time our results have been improving, we never had a decline. So, we think the project, does have a difference but we also saw in other province where the results were not good but after the introduction of these gadgets the results improved.”
