A Benoni man, who is thought to have set a shack alight burning to death his two toddler children and his 24-year-old girlfriend, has been apprehended by police.
The trio perished in the fire on December 23 last year. The man who has been on the run since last month was arrested in Piet Retief, in Mpumalanga over the weekend.
The 40-year-old man will appear in the Benoni Magistrate’s court tomorrow on charges of murder and arson.
Gauteng police spokesperson Mavela Masondo, “On 23 December 2023, police received a complaint about a shack that was on fire, with people inside, in Kingsway, Benoni. Upon arrival at the scene, police found the bodies of two children who were burnt beyond recognition. The case of murder and arson was registered and escalated to Provincial Serious and Violent Crime Investigation Unit for further investigation.”
