Fatalities reported as heavy rains cause havoc in KZN Midlands

Three individuals lost their lives in two separate incidents while attempting to cross flooded low-lying bridges due to heavy rains affecting three districts in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands.

The severe weather conditions also caused injuries to children in Willowfontein as their home collapsed.

Sboniso Mngadi, Spokesperson for Provincial Cooperative Governance, confirmed the impact of the severe weather in Umgungundlovu, Umzinyathi, and Harry Gwala districts.

In Willowfontein, under the Umgungundlovu district in Dundee, three fatalities were reported, accompanied by injuries to children as their home succumbed to the force of the weather.

In Umzinyathi District, a man lost his life attempting to cross a flooded bridge, leading to his vehicle being washed away. In the Umzimkhulu area under Harry Gwala District, a vehicle was washed away in the Cabhani River, carrying two occupants who did not survive the incident.
