Chief Electoral Officer, Sy Mamabolo, says 12. 1 million voters cast their ballots out of the 26 million registered voters.
Mamabolo addressed the media on Tuesday morning from the Electoral Commission (IEC) Results Operations Centre (ROC) in Pretoria.
The IEC gave an update on vote counting progress and the turnout on election date on Monday.
Mamabolo says 90% of the results will be finalised by Tuesday evening, and the balance of the 10% will take another 24-hours to complete.
” The province of the Northern Cape has completed 74% of its results. It is followed by Western Cape at 46% and in third place is the Free State at 26%.
For the rest of the provinces, the completion rate ranges between 15% and 37%
