887 new COVID-19 cases recorded in the latest reporting period in SA

The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) says the COVID-19 test positivity rate remained at 2.8% in the latest 24 hour reporting period in South Africa.

887 new cases were confirmed of which 587 are in Gauteng while another ten people succumbed to the virus – bringing the total death toll to 89 572.

The test positivity rate has been gradually increasing in the last few days.

Experts have been warning of a possible fourth wave towards the end of the year. Those who are eligible are encouraged are urged to get vaccinated as quickly as possible.

In the last 24 hours, only 35 100 vaccines were administered in the country, bringing the total number of vaccines doses administered since the start of the vaccination to 24.6 million.

Around 16.2 million people are now considered fully vaccinated after receiving two doses of the Pfizer- or a single dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
