Gauteng Law Enforcement Agencies say 70% of road fatalities this Easter Weekend, were pedestrians.

Many of the pedestrians killed were walking on the roads at night. Drinking and driving also contributed significantly to the rise in road fatalities.

Community Safety spokesperson, Ofentse Morwane has appealed to pedestrians to wear visible clothes at night.

“In terms of our preliminary information, 70% of the fatalities that have occurred in Gauteng in so far have involved pedestrians. We therefore want to caution our people walking the roads to exercise necessary precautionary measures especially at night which include wearing clothes that are visible,” says Morwane.
