7 new deaths push SA’s COVID-19 death toll to 123, 58% of those killed are men

The number of COVID-19 related deaths has risen by seven in South Africa, taking the country’s death toll to 123. More than 6 000 infections have been confirmed.

The statement further indicates that a total of 230 686 tests have been conducted to date of which 13 164 were done in the last 24 hours. This is the highest number of tests ever conducted in a 24-hour cycle.

Government has expressed relief over the increase in the number of recovered COVID-19 patients, which now stands at 2 549.

The Western Cape province has recorded the highest number of cases in the country with 2 700 and Gauteng having recorded 1 598 cases.

Western Cape also has the highest COVID-19 related deaths with 56 deaths recorded. Gauteng province has the highest recorded recoveries with 948.
