South Africa has recorded 7 070 new cases in the last 24-hour cycle, taking the total number to 1 430 648.
The country has also recorded 753 new COVID-19 related fatalities on Wednesday.
In a statement, Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says most of the new deaths were recorded in Kwa-Zulu Natal.
“Regrettably, we report 753 more COVID-19 related deaths: 6 from Eastern Cape, 17 from the Free State, 75 from Gauteng, 261 from Kwa-Zulu Natal, 219 from Limpopo, 16 from Mpumalanga, 50 from North West, 7 from Northern Cape and 102 from the Western Cape,” says Dr Mkhize. This brings the total number of deaths to 42 550.
Recoveries currently stand at 1 263 478.
The cumulative number of tests conducted to date is 8 107 833.
