Six suspects including two police officers have been arrested in Pretoria for conspiracy to commit a robbery.
They face various charges which include attempted murder, conspiracy to commit robbery, possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, possession of stolen cars and police impersonation.
Police spokesperson Philani Nkwalase says a multi-disciplinary law enforcement team acted on information about a syndicate allegedly linked to a series of armed robberies in Gauteng.
Nkwalase says the six were allegedly about to commit a robbery in Hatfield when police spotted them and a chase ensued.
“A police constable attached to Gauteng Crime intelligence was arrested along with two other occupants. One of the civilians, wearing a full police uniform sustained gunshot wound and was rushed to hospital. Additionally, a fake Hawks regalia was also seized during the arrest. Another constable, also from crime intelligence was also linked to the syndicate and arrested. She was in possession of a Nissan x3 from crime intelligence fitted with fake registration.”
Search for gunmen
Meanwhile, in the Free State police in Ficksburg are still searching for three men who opened fire randomly at patrons at a tavern on Friday night. During the gunfire one person was fatally wounded at the gate while five others were wounded inside the tavern and were taken to hospital.
Police spokesperson Phumelele Dlamini explains: “The victims were at one of the local taverns in Meqheleng when three armed suspects came and began firing shots at random. No one has been arrested yet.”
