A 52-year-old man at Onseepkans in the Northern Cape has been sentenced to 15 years imprisonment for the rape of a 16-year-old girl.
Lukas Afrikaner accosted the victim as she was on her way home from visiting friends in the area in July 2019. He repeatedly raped her and left the scene.
Police spokesperson Sergio Kock says: “The Provincial Head for Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences, Brig Nicky Mills welcomes the 15-year direct rape sentence that was handed down to Lukas Afrikaner (52) in Pofadder Magistrate’s Court, recently. The police followed up on information and arrested the suspect on 19 July 2019. He remained in custody up until his sentencing on 17 June 2021.”
