Traffic officers made seven other arrests for various offences including reckless and negligent driving, possession of mandrax and a stolen vehicle.

35 people have been arrested for drunk driving in the Western Cape since the start of the weekend.

Provincial Traffic Chief, Kenny Africa, says officers also nabbed a driver for being five times over the legal alcohol limit in Worcester, in the Boland.

He says officers made 7 other arrests for various offences, including reckless and negligent driving, possession of mandrax and a stolen vehicle.

“2,172 vehicles were stopped and 819 drivers were tested for alcohol. The highest reading recorded was a reading of 1.41mg/1000ml in Breede valley in Worcester. We also arrested three motorist for being in possession of false documentation; one in Beaufort West in the Karoo and another one in Mossel Bay in the Southern Cape and also one in Swellendam,” says Africa.
